An Ecclectic Perspective on: Max Payne 3
Sooo…just finished this joint last night..It wasn’t bad. It was a lot better visually and gameplay wise than part 2 and 1 but Max Payne 1 is still the best game overall in the series in my opinion. I say that because the mystery surrounding his families death and how it visualizes his decent into madness is very eerie and well done. The story for MP3 is pretty basic, but if you like these type of Shoot em up games you can probably overlook it.
The visuals were very crisp and the targeting and character movement was very fluid. Of course the famous bullet time sections of the game were there, but they added a new slow motion cinematic cam when you kill the last person in a group that was cool..You literally follow the last bullet or bullets (shotgun) out the barrel and into the person’s body, if you hold the (A) button you can actually continue to shoot the person and watch the body get filled with bullets in slow motion lol..I know that sounds a bit sadistic, but it was fun. This wound up being one of the highlights of the game for me.
The big difference with MP3 was the continuous gameplay, something I had never really experienced in a game. The game literally plays like a movie moving seamlessly from cut scene to action scene back to cut scene all while autosaving your progress. I will say there were a few times that I was in the midst of gunning down the enemy and the cut scene was rather unwelcome and felt out of place, but the game did flow really well.
Like I said earlier, the storyline is pretty basic. I mean, they tried to throw a twist or two in there but it never really hit well. Its your basic kidnap and rescue story that places Max in various parts of Brazil and in New York via flashbacks. But it’s like I always say, if you like these types of games, then you’ll like this one.
Good storyline flow, graphics and movement. Not too much replay value and the multiplayer is better left for Ghost Recon or Modern Warfare, still its a decent pickup or rental. Gameplay is about 12-15 hours.
I give it a B+
