geekoftheology:   Hello,I just stubbled on your blog. First thing I noticed was that you are a Social worker. I am Sociology major and this is ,y fianl year. If you have time, I would love to hear your views on Social Work as a career. I'm not so sure what im going to do with my degree, but one of my greatest passions is to work with people. So, I would love to hear your views and advice. Thanks!

My life as a Social Worker. I’ve been doing this for about 10 years now. I’ve been a Case Worker who helps with family planning, a Child Abuse/Neglect Investigator and finally a Litigation Specialist/Court Liaison that deals with families after they’ve had kids removed.

It’s a very tough job. Long hours, Late Nights and sometimes working on weekends. You come face to face with some of the worst aspects of human nature. I’ve dealt with Drug Abusers, Child Rapists/Molesters, Murderer etc. I’ve worked with the Police, FBI, Coroners office and various Judge’s. You will help a lot of families and its great when a family thanks you, but other times you will be cursed, spit and guilted by not only families, but the media, the courts etc.

If your tough enough to deal with it, it can be one of the most rewarding and amazing things you will ever do.
